Last week 15 boys from years 4-7 set off to Manchester for the school's first ever sports tour. After a good coach trip we arrived at the Manchester City's Etihad training campus for the first training session. The facilities were world class and the boys were given their own Manchester City training kit and treated like little premier league stars! After a great session we headed to the National Football Museum where the group enjoying learning about the history of football and were also lucky enough to relive the 1966 world cup final by using virtual headsets. The first day finished back at the hotel with a oriental banquet!
Day 2 started with another huge feast setting the boys up for another busy day, we again headed to MCFC training campus where the boys enjoyed more coaching and some of the boys attracting attention from watching MCFC staff. After lunch at the academy we headed to the Etihad Stadium for a behind the scenes tour, with one of the highlights being the children sat where Messi sat a few days earlier in the away team dressing room! After a quick visit to the MCFC shop we hopped on the coach to Branwood Prep school for a match. In tough conditions the boys played well at times but narrowly lost 3-2. After a snack we headed back to the hotel for dinner. After another huge feed we made our way to the Hollywood Bowl for ten pin bowling. This was a huge hit with all the boys. The lane winners were Oliver M, Mark J, Milo J (Not counting the teachers scores!!)
The final day saw the boys take part in another great 2 hour football session continuing to work on their skills and how to take them into game play. After our goodbyes to the coaches we made our way over the footbridge to the Etihad Stadium to find our seats, after seeing the players off the team coach the boys were very excited to watch Manchester City vs Middlesbrough in the premier league. The match ended 1-1, with the boys able to watch what they had learnt over the 3 days put into practice by the 1st team (although not for 90 mins!)
It was a truly great trip and i am so proud of all the boys.
